Mozambique has officially reinstated its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirement for travelers from 29 visa-exempt countries, effective July 31, 2026. After a period of technical difficulties that led to its suspension in April 2025, the upgraded online application system is now fully operational. Eligible visitors must secure an ETA before boarding a flight to Mozambique.
The ETA requirement was initially introduced in April 2025 but suspended shortly after due to problems with the online application portal. Authorities confirm the new cloud-based system is stable and ready for use.
Who Must Apply for the Mozambique ETA?
The Mozambique ETA is mandatory for citizens of 29 specific countries that enjoy visa-free entry for short business or tourism visits. These countries include:
- Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the United Kingdom
- Canada and the United States
- China, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates
- Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Senegal
While these travelers benefit from visa-free access, an ETA must be obtained at least 48 hours prior to departure to Mozambique.
ETA vs. eVisa: Understanding the Difference for Mozambique Travel
Mozambique utilizes both an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) and an eVisa system, accessible via a unified online portal.
- ETA: Specifically for travelers from the 29 visa-exempt countries. It is valid for one entry and allows a stay of up to 30 days. The cost is approximately US$48.
- eVisa: Required for travelers from all other countries, including India. Depending on the visa type, stays of 30 to 90 days are available.

Launched in February 2026 with technical support from VFS Global, Mozambique’s new cloud-based visa platform replaces the problematic earlier system. This robust digital platform streamlines the application process and offers:

- Multiple visa categories, including tourist, business, crew, sports, humanitarian, and oil and gas travel
- Fully digital processing, with travel authorization linked directly to travelers’ passports

Travelers planning a trip to Mozambique should keep these critical points in mind:
- ETA applications must be submitted at least 48 hours before departure.
- ETA holders are permitted to stay for up to 30 days on a single entry.
- Travelers intending to stay longer than 30 days must apply for an appropriate eVisa.
- Arriving in Mozambique without the required ETA or eVisa may result in denied entry.
What This Means for Indian Travellers to Mozambique
Indian passport holders are not eligible for the Mozambique ETA. They must continue to apply for a Mozambique eVisa via the country’s new digital platform before traveling.
For Indian travelers departing from major hubs such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, or Chennai, the eVisa remains a mandatory pre-departure requirement. Airlines are expected to verify this travel authorization before boarding passengers.
