India e-Visa Expansion: 11 New Entry Ports Added for International Travellers
Foreign travellers holding an Indian e-Visa now have more options to enter the country, following India’s addition of 11 new international ports to its e-Visa entry network. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this expansion on August 10, including two airports and nine land ports. This development brings the total number of international entry points for e-Visa holders to 88, significantly enhancing accessibility for global visitors.
Bhopal and Tirupati Join India’s e-Visa Airport Network
The two newly added airports authorized for e-Visa entry are:
- Bhopal Airport, Madhya Pradesh
- Tirupati Airport, Andhra Pradesh
With these additions, India now boasts 37 airports where eligible foreign nationals can enter using their e-Visa. This expanded airport network includes major international gateways such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Goa, and Kochi, alongside regional airports. The inclusion of Bhopal and Tirupati makes e-Visa travel more convenient for those planning to visit areas beyond India’s primary tourist hubs.
9 New Land Ports Added to India’s e-Visa Network for Overland Travel
A significant part of the e-Visa expansion focuses on India’s land borders. The Ministry has listed the following nine locations as newly added land ports for e-Visa entry:
- Agartala
- Darranga
- Gede
- Ghojadanga
- Haridaspur
- Jaigaon
- Dawki
- Moreh
- Attari (Road)
These border crossings facilitate travel between India and neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Pakistan. Specifically, Agartala, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, and Dawki serve routes along the Bangladesh border. Jaigaon and Darranga connect with Bhutan, Moreh is situated on the Myanmar border, and Attari (Road) is a crucial road crossing between India and Pakistan. This expansion is particularly beneficial for travellers planning multi-country trips across South Asia who prefer to enter India overland.

Clarifying the Darranga Land Port Listing
An apparent inconsistency exists in the government’s released list, where Darranga is mentioned twice: once among existing land ports and again under the “Newly Added” category. Despite this duplication, for practical travel purposes, Darranga is already confirmed as an authorized e-Visa entry point in the official list. The government has not yet provided clarification regarding this discrepancy.
India’s Evolving e-Visa System: Growth and Efficiency
Since its introduction in 2014 for citizens of 43 countries, India’s e-Visa facility has significantly expanded its reach. It is now available to nationals of 172 countries. The system has also diversified, offering 17 e-Visa subcategories that cover a wide range of travel purposes, including tourism, mountaineering, business, medical travel, study, transit, and cruise group visits.
The Ministry reports that approximately 78% of all visas issued by India are now electronic, with about 95% of e-Visa applications processed within 72 hours. This trend highlights India’s commitment to modernizing its visa process and expanding accessible entry points for international visitors.
Important: Always Check the Official e-Visa Portal Before Travelling
While this expansion offers new opportunities, travellers are strongly advised to check the official India e-Visa portal for the most current information before finalizing travel plans. At the time of this publication, the newly announced Bhopal, Tirupati, and specific land port additions had not yet been fully reflected on the official portal. Therefore, verify the authorized-entry list directly from the government’s site.
Additionally, foreign visitors must complete the e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival. Travellers should also be aware that Air Suvidha 2.0 was reinstated in June 2026 and must be submitted before immigration clearance.
This expansion is a positive step for foreign visitors, but we recommend waiting for the official India e-Visa portal to update its listings before relying on these newly announced crossings for travel itineraries.
