Mozambique has officially restored its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirement for travelers from 29 visa-exempt countries. After resolving months of technical issues, the ETA system is fully operational. Starting July 31, 2026, eligible visitors must once again secure an ETA before boarding flights to Mozambique.
The ETA requirement was initially launched in April 2025 but was suspended just weeks later due to problems with the online application portal. Authorities confirm that the upgraded cloud-based system is now robust and ready for use.

Travelers from these nations no longer need a traditional visa, but they must obtain an ETA at least 48 hours before their scheduled departure to Mozambique.
Mozambique ETA vs. eVisa: Understanding the Difference
Mozambique now operates both its ETA and eVisa systems through a single, unified online portal:
- ETA: This is for travelers from the 29 visa-exempt countries. It is valid for a single entry and allows a stay of up to 30 days. The estimated cost for an ETA is US$48.
- eVisa: Required for travelers from all other countries, including India. Depending on the specific visa type, eVisa holders can typically stay for 30 to 90 days.

Mozambique’s New Digital Visa Platform
Mozambique implemented its new cloud-based visa platform in February 2026, with technical support from VFS Global. This advanced system replaces the previous one that led to the ETA’s suspension.

- ETA applications must be submitted a minimum of 48 hours before your departure.

Mozambique Visa for Indian Travellers: What You Need to Know
Indian passport holders are not eligible for Mozambique’s Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Indian citizens must continue to apply for a Mozambique eVisa before traveling, using the country’s new digital platform.
